Discovering the Wonders of Perth and Hobart

PUBLISHED BY PIC TRAVEL4 MIN READ

Travelling for work often sounds glamorous, but nothing beats the excitement of being invited on a ‘famil’. Short for ‘familiarisation trip’, a famil is an incredible opportunity, especially for those in the events and conferences industry, as well as journalists. These free trips are designed to give professionals a deep dive into a location’s offerings, empowering them to promote these destinations effectively. Recently, I had the privilege to join a famil hosted by Business Events Perth, which turned out to be an eye-opening adventure into what Perth and Hobart have to offer.

What did we get out of our trip?

Imagine getting a guided tour of the best event venues, accommodation, dining experiences, and attractions of a city. That’s essentially what this trip was about. Aimed primarily at event and conference planners, as well as journalists, these tailored experiences enable industry professionals to fully understand and appreciate the facilities, service quality, and unique selling points of a destination. The end goal? To equip them with firsthand knowledge and experiences that can help in organising future events or writing compelling stories.

The Rising Stars of Business Events: Perth and Hobart

Although specific statistics for the last three years were challenging to compile, there’s a noticeable trend that both Perth and Hobart are becoming increasingly popular locations for conferences and events. This rise in popularity isn’t surprising. Both cities offer unique combinations of modern facilities, stunning natural landscapes, and vibrant cultures that can transform any event into a memorable experience for delegates.

While specific, up-to-date statistical data on the growth of Perth and Hobart as prime locations for business events may be scarce, several indicators point to their rising popularity. For instance, Perth’s recent developments, such as the opening of the state-of-the-art Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, underscore the city’s capacity to host large-scale international events. Similarly, Hobart’s growing reputation is bolstered by investments in infrastructure like the Hobart International Airport expansion and the development of new hotel projects aimed at accommodating an increasing number of visitors. Additionally, both cities have seen a steady rise in the number of high-profile events, including international conferences and cultural festivals, further signaling their appeal as top-tier destinations for business and leisure travel alike.

Why Perth?

Perth, the sun-soaked capital of Western Australia, has seen significant growth in its events sector. The city’s investment in infrastructure, like the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, positions it as a leading choice for various kinds of events, from international conferences to private gatherings. Perth’s blend of urban sophistication and stunning natural surroundings, such as Kings Park and Swan River, add an extra layer of allure for event organisers and attendees alike.

The Charm of Hobart

Hobart, Tasmania’s heart, might be smaller than other Australian capitals, but it punches well above its weight when it comes to hosting events. The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) has placed Hobart on the map as a destination for the culturally curious, while its world-renowned food and wine scene captivates guests from around the globe. For event planners, the city’s compact nature means everything is conveniently accessible, enhancing the overall attendee experience.

Perth and Hobart

The famil organised by Business Events Perth was nothing short of spectacular. It wasn’t just a trip; it was a curated experience that showcased the very best of what Perth and Hobart have to offer to the business events sector. From exploring cutting-edge venues to tasting local delicacies and soaking up the arts and culture, it provided an invaluable perspective on planning and promoting events in these cities.

Key Highlights

  • Venues and Facilities: Both cities boast an impressive array of venues that can cater to events of all sizes. The firsthand look at these venues during our trip makes it easier to envisage hosting events there.
  • Local Culture and Cuisine: No trip like this could be complete without immersing in the local culture and cuisine. Perth and Hobart delight with their culinary scenes, where local produce takes centre stage.
